On the 21st of January, Wilde sponsored 100% fruit juice at the highly successful Wellington Sport's Day which was hosted by The Centre for Multigrade Education in collaboration with M-Net and the Let's Play initiative. The sport's day was held on the sports fields of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Wellington Campus, where many young lives were enriched by this special day with celebrities Dieter Voigt (presenter of Pasella) and Breyton Paulse (former Springbok wing). Dieter was the MC for the day while Breyton delivered a very powerful motivational speech that covered goal-setting and commitment to achieving those goals.

180 Children from various corners of the Western Cape , Blouville Primary (Wellington), Bergrivier Primary (Wellington), Holvlei Primary (Hopefield), St Michael's Primary (Grabouw) and Welvaart Primary near Ceres, were brought to the sport day thanks to Paarl Rock Tours.

The sport's day is aimed at developing general motor skills which include: Coordination, rhythm, speed, laterality, agility, balance and other motor specific motor components. The program was developed to measure the influence it has on the numeracy and literacy levels of the participating children. For additional information on the sport day, click here.

Winners of Dirtopia's 24 hour Oak Valley mountain bike endurance race

In January, riders took part in the 24 hour Oak Valley mountain biking event hosted by Dirtopia. There were over 300 riders and 500 campers who joined in on the adrenaline fueled weekend. Riders of all ages enjoyd both night and day time riding along the picturesque 11km circuit. Wilde was there to ensure that all participants were well hydrated for the duration of the event with 100% Fruit Juice.

Boland mountainbikers Dane Walsh (Somerset West) and Hanri Dalton (Stellenbosch) werevictorious at the past weekend's 24 Hours of Oak Valley mountain bikeendurance race presented by Spur Steak Ranches.

These twocyclist completed the most laps of the 11km circuit in a period of 24 hours assolo riders. Walsh completed 30 laps, while Dalton managed 19.The Open team competition was won by Rocky Mountain's Jarred Haley,Timo Cooper, Mike Jacker and Martin Freyer. They completed 46 laps.

This yearDirtopia, organizers of the event, cut a new track for the event at Oak Valley- the wine estate that is now as famous for its mountain bike routes as itswines! There was a 250m climb in the 11km Dirtopia race where two thirds of the track was singletrack and the rest, woodland.

Walsh wasjoined on the winner's podium by Hentus Baard (also 30 laps) and Lance Stephenson(26). "It was the best 24 Hour ever! The event was great," saidWalsh.

Dalton had atitanic battle with Anneline Trivella. With her 19 laps she managed a victorywith one lap! Another Stellenbosch mountain biker Dominique Provoyeur (14)finished third.

A team fromSomerset West Helderberg Cycle World managed a second place in the teamcompetition. Helderberg was represented by Stephan van Zyl, Martin Rodenbach,Pieter Gildenhuys and Christiaan Kampfer.

The OakValley Ladies open team - Elzaan Visser, Theresa Horn, BaredeenZietsman and Mirian Stronkhorst - completed 24 laps.

In thecategory for schools Paul Roos Gymansium was victorious against two teams fromPaarl Gymnasium. Paul Roos / Giant Mavic team also won the Overall Teamtitle.Edward Best, Stephan Senekal, Matthew Lombardi and James Buijs presentedPaul Roos.

Wilde Hydrates at Epic Bootcamp

Over the weekend, riders preparing for this year's Cape Epic, took part in a bootcamp which lasted 3 days, that's an incredible 180km's and almost 14 hours in the saddle. The bootcamp took place in three locations, Durbanville, Robertson and Caledon. The trails were picturesque, yet rigorous and the searing heat of the day demanded constant rehydration. Luckily, Wilde Fruit Juice was there to quench the riders thirst and boost energy levels.

The bootcamp was organised by DaisyWay, which is a coaching company that specialises in coaching riders to improve pedaling techniques. The founders of this great company, Erica and Louise, bring both competitive cycling knowledge and Sport Physiology together to offer a coaching system which yields great results. They monitor all riders progress on a monthly basis, tweaking their training schedules to gain maximum proficiency in their cycling.

Wilde gets muddy at Dirtopia

This past Saturday, mountain bikers of all ages gathered for Dirtopia's 10th annual 24 hour team relay mountain bike event at Oak Valley Estate in Grabouw. What makes this event special, is the fact that entrants set up camp for the weekend so they can enjoy a combination of endurance and night riding. Dirtopia is highly social, which helps build camaraderie between riders and teammates.

Dirtopia is a mountain bike and trail construction company which started out as a mountain bike festival in 2000. Since then, the organization has grown to incorporate several annual mountain biking events, as well as the construction and maintenance of hiking and mountain bike trails. Dirtopia offers several mountain bike and hiking trails to suit the experience level of any individual, making it an ideal location for beginners and professionals alike.

Wilde walks with the SPCA

Wilde Fruit Juice helped out at the annual SPCA Royal Canin Wiggle Waggle Walkathon fundraising event this past November, which is South Africa's biggest dog walk. Just over 2500 pet owners and 1700 dogs enjoyed a 4.5km walk in the scenic landscapes of Tokai, near Cape Town.

If that's not all, everyone was treated to a comedic performance by renowned comedians Soli Philander and Kurt Schoonraad. After the rounds of laughter and although the rain ended the proceedings prematurely, all participants left in high spirits.

Despite the large number of pets, we were pleased to hear that there weren't any veterinary emergencies. A staggering R250 000 was raised for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, which is sure to improve the lives of many sick and abandoned animals. Wilde was proud to be part of this fundraiser. Wellington Golf Day a Wilde success

This past Friday, we had a highly successful cowboy and cowgirl themed golf day at the Wellington Golf Club in sweltering spring weather.

22 teams, comprised of four players each, battled it out on the course - quenching their thirst with non other than refreshing Wilde Fruit Juice and snacks at various holes along the course. The golf day was a fundraiser for the NG Noord Congregation in Wellington and we managed to raise a staggering R130 000!

Wilde supports M-Net Cares Drive

The M-Net Cares Drive was a phenomenal success this year with just over R580 000 being raised for two equally deserving charities: The M-Net Naledi Children's Literacy Project and The PinkDrive Breast Cancer Initiative. These projects respectively aim to improve the illiteracy rate and create awareness about breast cancer throughout the country.

Pictured below is Noelene Kotschan (PinkDrive) who receives a well deserved cheque of just over R280 000 from Koo Govender (M-Net Director of Corporate Marketing and Communications), Shelley Segal (Liberty Medical Scheme) and Gina Read (Cloud9Golf).

The totality of the event was a series of 24 Ambassador Golf days which were hosted nation wide, culminating in the National Final at the Randpark Golf Club. Wilde Wheelchairs in action

Inspiring athletes participated in the annual Mitchells Plain Wheelchair Race which was held at the Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre. This was the race's third consecutive year of providing disabled athletes with an opportunity to shine and Wilde Fruit Juice was there to tantalise some taste buds!

The race boasts several categories which include Paraplegics, Quadriplegics and Cerebral Palsy. Professional athletes took part in a challenging 22km race, whilst beginners tested their skills in an 800m sprint and another race for powered wheelchairs.

Wilde Fruit Juice would like to congratulate Zanele who was the winner of the ladies 6km race, pictured below with her proud daughter. And well done to all athletes for taking part in this event.

Team Wilde rode to victory at last weekend's Renosterveld MTB ride from Langebaan - Durbanville. Reniell Matthysen and Timo Cooper won the first 2 stages of the race which was a great victory! Alas, an unfortunate tyre puncture caused the team to finish 2nd overall which is still a fantastic result.

Robert King (Wellington Farmer) and Uros Kepic (MD of Tetrapak SA and Sub Sahara) also did very well, having finished the race with no complaints.

Team Wilde is looking forward to future MTB rides and the much anticipated Cape pioneer trek.

Team Wilde completes stage 4 of the Corporate MTB League

On Saturday 17th September 2011, Team Wilde members Tobie Visser and Jacques Groenewald participated in the 4th stage of the Corporate MTB League 2011.

All riders were presented with the most perfect and beautiful racing conditions that the Elgin Valley could possibly offer, starting from Tri-Active Adventures and following a magnificent course over Thandi, Paul Cluver and Oak Valley. It simply was magic, and many riders claimed that this was the best/most enjoyable course in the series so far, except for Team Wilde's small incident...

After a successful ride, both Team Wilde members car keys had fallen out of their saddle bags! Some frantic search and rescue efforts followed on the course after the prize-giving! The good news was that one set of keys were found, and a spare set of keys were handy for the other car.

Sjoe! Team Wilde almost had to add another stage to their ride by riding home to Wellington too!

It was a good job that the Wilde beverage stand was at the ready to quench our thirst.

Timo the Baviaan conquerer

A few weeks back, Team Wilde's Timo Cooper and trainer Gedden Ruddock kicked dust in the eyes of fellow cyclists to claim the number one spot in the Trans Baviaans one day race! Not only is this 235km challenge one of South Africa's premier mountain biking events, it's the longest single day MTB team challenge in the world. Starting at Willowmore, the route winds over and around spectacular mountain ranges before dipping through the breathtaking Baviaanskloof. Most cyclists only dream of competing and finishing the Trans Baviaans race, which makes Timo and Gedden's feat all the more noteworthy. Congratulations guys!

'Ride the Rhino' MTB Challenge

Our star pedaling performers - Kabous, Robert, Timo and Reniell of Team Wilde - will be showing their support for environmentalism this September, by competing in the Ride the Rhino cycling race. Instead of cycling for the sake of pure adrenaline, the Ride the Rhino is in support of rhino conservation.

Where at one stage the Renosterveld stretched from Vanrhynsdorp to Mossel Bay, this unique habitat now comprises only 4% of its original size. Through this mountain bike race, Renosterveld Events strive to create awareness of this environmental tragedy, and raise funds for the Renosterveld Trust, as well as towards improving communities along the route.

This grueling 3-day mountain bike challenge stretches from Langebaan to Durbanville and seperates the cycling world's Black Rhinos (300km race) from the White Rhinos (180km race). As always, Team Wilde is making the spokes turn as hard as fruit presses. On Saturday 23 June 2011, Timo Cooper, Reniell Matthysen, Kabous Marra and Robert King participated in this year's Wolseley Mountain Bike Race. Sporting a Wilde cycling shirt (Reniell) and unyielding game faces, the team made the muscle mutilating track look like child's play. Timo kicked dust in the eyes of other cyclists, finishing in first place! Reniell ended in an impressive third place, while Kabous and Robert made us proud, completing the race in good time together as a team. The four cyclists are now hard at work, preparing for the upcoming Cape Pioneer trek, which takes place in October. If
the Wolseley race is anything to go by, the Trek is sure to be a pushover. Well done, Team!

ELLE New Talent Make-up Artist Search Awards

The final of the ELLE New Talent Make-up Artist Search took place at Idasa Restaurant in Cape Town last week, attended by big names in the beauty industry and hosted by the lovely Tammy-Anne Fortuin. Naturally, Wilde was there.

While guests and judges sat back, idly sipping and stirring their drinks, the finalists were hard at work beautifying their models. This was quite the challenge - not only making the models more beautiful than they already are, but having to do so in only 30 minutes. The creative juice was flowing in liters, each finalist sipping on a carton of Wilde as they rushed about to complete their make-up masterpieces.

Finally, after much deliberation and discussion among the panel of judges, the show was stolen by Zakhele Mhlongo, or rather by the model flaunting his meticulous handiwork. As the New Talent Make-up Artist 2011, this talented young artist has a bright future ahead of him. Congratulations Zakhele, we wish you the best of luck!

Update: The season draws to a close

Last Friday really was a 'last Friday' at the the Pinelands Hockey Club as the annual Friday Night Lights coaching initiative drew to a close. Though a bit sad that the season is over, celebrations were in order as this time round 461 children had received personal hockey training under the
floodlights. Coaches and parents all blossomed with pride as the little athletes claimed their prizes, basking in the glory of the past months' hard work and bruised shins.

Through this initiative parents have seen their children grow from tearful hockey stick fearing squirts to confident young team players. Lindsay Dawes commented that her niece "absolutely loved the hockey on Friday" while Euguene Manoek believes that it's thanks to these Friday evening training sessions that his daughter Chelsea made it through to the zonal trials.

As one of the sponsors of this hockey skills development clinic, Wilde Fruit Juice is proud to have stood side-by-side with parents and coaches, watching every fledgeling grow over the past season. Update: Expert training for goalkeepers

The Pinelands Hockey Club skills development initiative, Friday Night Lights, recently welcomed Lee Ibie, the Wales International Goalkeeper and 1st Team Mens Coach.

Lee Ibie was joined by a team of renowned professional goalkeepers to give the aspiring goalies some expert training to help improve their game. Seven goalkeepers, between the ages of 10 and 13 from local and surrounding schools, were put through their paces with a series of serious drills to focus on the main aspects of goalkeeping.

The inspiring training session will hopefully assist our aspiring young goalkeepers to wear the Green and Gold one day. In fact, they looked so motivated, that we wouldn't put it past them.

Update: Hockey development on a roll

The Pinelands Hockey Club skills development initiative, Friday Night Lights, is doing its bit for the community. For two consecutive Fridays, 13 and 20 May 2011, children from an underprivileged school, Garden Village Primary, enrolled in the hockey development clinic.

Wilde hands out free juice to all the participating hockey players.

On Friday the 13th, Friday Night Lights hosted 88 children for hockey skills development, with 12 of the athletes hailing from Garden Village. The following Friday saw 89 children attending practice, with 17 from Garden Village!

Pinelands Hockey Club is pleased with the development of the participants' hockey skills. After only three sessions of Friday Night Lights, huge improvement has been spotted - these kids are dribbling towards success!

Wilde Fruit Juice supported Janet Lightley and her team partner, Andrew Koen, who participated in the 2011 ABSA Cape Epic that took place from 27 March to 3 April. They aimed to raise awareness and funds for a local charity initiative, Miracle Kidz.

Miracle Kidz provides a safe and loving temporary home to abused, abandoned and neglected babies and children. In addition to feeding, clothing and attending to any medical requirements, Miracle Kidz introduces the children in their care to a family structure and prepares them for the future.

Even though just under 90% of the cyclists who started the ABSA Cape Epic race on the 27th of March 2011 saw it through to the finish line on 3 April, Janet Lightley and Andrew Koen said that it was an incredible experience for them and that it was a privilege to be able to ride in such beautiful and unspoiled areas.

Furthermore, the team was blown away by the massive support they received during their Epic venture: a total of R 51 427,50 was raised for Miracle Kidz, which will now be put towards the organisation's much needed vehicle fund for the transport of the children and babies in their care.

As you may know, Wilde Fruit Juice hosted another successful Wilde Kiddies Corner at the 2011 South African Cheese Festival. As this year was a special occasion, marking the 10th anniversary of this ever-evolving food and wine exhibition, Wilde decided to bring something different to the table.

Wilde Fruit Juice invited SPCA Cape of Good Hope to sell little doggy balloons around the Wilde Kiddies Corner. A total of 1 260 balloons were sold, all to benefit the good cause of SPCA in the Western Cape.

Janet Lightley participated in the 2010 ABSA Cape Epic Mountain Bike Challenge. She saw the opportunity and used the event as a platform to raise funds for a charity organisation, called Miracle Kidz.

Miracle Kidz provides a safe and loving temporary home to abused, abandoned and neglected babies and children. In addition to feeding, clothing and attending to any medical requirements, Miracle Kidz introduces the children in their care to a family structure and prepares them for the future.

Janet, with the support of Wilde Fruit Juice, managed to raise approximately R 29 080 for the initiative. But this was only the beginning:

Janet Lightley and her team partner, Andrew Koen, will be participating in this year's ABSA Cape Epic once again, and this time they plan on raising even more awareness and funds for Miracle Kidz, than last year. We wish them the best of luck.

Daisyway Coaching Systems hosted Team ABSA's 2011 Cape Epic training camp from 3 to 6 February 2011. This camp was proudly sponsored by Wilde Fruit Juice.

Among the happy campers, we found Joel Stransky (who successfully completed the 2010 ABSA Cape Epic), Thea-Mari Durand (SA’s only female mountaineer, who has conquered 5 of the world’s 7 major summits) and Catherine Labuschagne (world’s first female Gripen fighter pilot)!

The Tulbagh Training Camp promised to be a challenge, and tough riding conditions were experienced with temperatures well over the 30s! Each day's training was braved at 6 in the morning.

After riding around the Tulbagh and Witzenberg Valley areas (with the consent of all land owners) the riders got a good taste of what awaits them on 27 March 2011 for the start of the ABSA Cape Epic - this year is going to be EPIC (in the truest form of the word)!

Wilde Fruit Juice will be there to fuel your way, quench your thirst and provide shade with their fancy, branded gazebo!

Wilde Cycle Day - This Saturday!

Wilde Fruit Juice is proud to bring you the annual Wilde Cycle Day, this Saturday, the 19th of February 2011! Pre-entries close on 17 February 2011, that means TOMORROW! Don't delay, enter online over here to avoid disappointment.

Route Description:
94 km Cycle Route
Long route (94 km) cyclists will leave the new venue at Boland Stadium / Laërskool Hugenote into Blouvlei road and turn left into Piet Retief Road. Cyclists will then pedal out to the R44, direction Hermon, to pass Riebeek Kasteel and climb over Bothmaskloof Paas. Turn left onto the R45 to return to Wellington and the new finish near the venue in Piet Retief Road.

54 km Cycle Route
The 54 km route follows the R45 towards Malmesbury, turns left onto the Voorpaardeberg road past Sonop Winery and the Paardeberg Prison. Turn left into Voorpaardeberg / Windmeul road and left again at the Windmeul Winery onto the R44. Cross the 4-way stop and continue to the finish.

Mountain Bike Route
The MTB takes place on the gravel roads in and around Wellington wine farms under the picturesque Hawekwa and Groenberg Mountains.

Directions to venue

From Cape Town, take the N1 towards Paarl. Take the R44 off-ramp to Wellington. Drive through Wellington and turn left at the third robot. After about 2 km, turn right into Blouvlei road where you will find the venue on your left.

With no road closure, cyclists must stay left of the median, and obey traffic signs, officials and marshals at all times.

Refreshments will be sold on the day. The 20 km MTB is not timed and therefore no CSA Day License is applicable.

Going big at Big Bay LSC

Wilde Fruit Juice hosted the Wilde Masters Classic at Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club on 5 February 2011. It was an exciting event that had lifesavers gasping for air at the mere thought of it. Only the best contended and could keep up with the beat of the day's gruesome challenges.

An extended ‘Around the Rocks’ Ski Event was the Highlight of the day, and followed the same 3 km course as the famous ‘Blue Peter Around the Rocks Swim’.

Wilde made sure the heroes had something to drink, while they also handed out Wilde-branded merchandise like t-shirts and caps.

Timo Cooper finishes in top position

Wilde Fruit Juice sponsored avid mountain biker, Timo Cooper, in his first race for 2011. He participated in the Bouckaert Soenen 2011, a grueling 45 km off-road route that started out with a steep 8 km climb through the Paarl Mountain Reserve. From there on out, it was a fast paced battle to the finish line filled with amazing single tracks and a street sprint section at the end.

Timo finished the Bouckaert Soenen 2011 in 3rd place - and that's what we call starting the year off with a bang!

The cycle routes will take the roadsters through the quaint town of Wellington which is surrounded by beautiful views, while the MTB trails will lead the gravel-hungry participants straight into these views - to experience it on a whole different level!

Team Wilde finishes the 2011 Attakwas Extreme

Team Wilde participated in the Attakwas Extreme MTB Marathon that took place on 15 January 2011. This event is considered to be the most challenging of all MTB events in South Africa.

The Attakwas Extreme MTB Marathon takes place annually around this time of year and covers a great distance of 121 km (with a 2 900 metre climb!) between Oudtshoorn and Groot Brak, consisting of seemingly endless uphills, gravel roads, Jeep Tracks and many river crossings washed out by rocky descents.

Kabous Marra finished this labouring challenge in a little over 8 hours. Well done!

Wilde 100% was the fruit juice sponsor at Elle Fresh Face 2011. The editors of Elle, brand managers of Woolworths and the Boss Models manager were all present, sipping away on our 100% goodness.

Elle Fresh Face sets out to find a young woman with style and substance who represents South Africa in her own unique terms. Eight beautiful finalists had the opportunity to show what they were made of, and give their story in their own words, allowing the judges to make a clear, informed decision. At the end of the night, it was Alexandra Robertshaw who made the best impression, earning herself the title of Elle Fresh Face 2011.

Kabous Marra and Alan Dawson represented Team Wilde at the DCM Cape Pioneer Trek, that took place from 18 to 23 October 2010. The team experienced their ups and downs, including fatigue, but they still managed to press on until the end.

Wilde Fruit Juice also made its mark as one of the proud product sponsors of the DCM Cape Pioneer Challenge 2010.

The DCM Cape Pioneer Trek was a challenge and definitely no walk in the park - especially when you consider the immense heat the riders had to face on a daily basis. The team was forced to take some days more relaxed than the others in order to rest out for the hectic challenges, like the epic 1 600 metres of climbing on day 4! On day 5, the determination of Team Wilde was put to the test. They didn't enjoy a good night's rest, while the route of the day consisted of possibly the toughest quarter of the race up Swartkloof Pass. In good spirits, the team pressed through to finish the trek!

A place we like to call home, even if it was only for a few days.

Ready as ever, yet so relaxed about it.

Don't be misled by the beautiful surrounds, this race was one great challenge.

Sometimes, the smallest pleasures are what matters the most.
A well-deserved boerie, indeed.

Strong Heart

1 Golden Delicious Apple (Pectin in apple skin is a great immune booster)
½ red onion (great for your heart)

Team Wilde will be participating in the Coronation Double Century Cycle Challenge on the 27th of November 2010.

Wilde will send twelve well-trained riders on this epic 202 km journey, which is limited to 200 competing teams. The route will complete a full circle, starting and finishing in the quaint town of Swellendam - the third oldest settlement in South Africa!

The route may be lavished with beautiful surrounds, but still promises to be a challenge. "Teams will complete the most challenging climbs, Tradouw Pass as well as Op de Tradouw, within the first 60km of the race." Are you up for the challenge?
